Because it use the peel of the fruit, not the pulp...


Also, there's more than just Orange Marmalade; there's all kinds of citrus styles, including Ginger(yummy)

Jams contain whole fruit while Marmalade contains the pulp and rind of fruits; mostly citrus fruits. And Jellies are a made from the juices of fruit.

Maybe it has to do with the fact that marmalades have the orange peel incorporated. Maybe it has to do with the fruit being citrus. (Marmalades can be made with any citrus fruit).

Jams use fruit pulp, but not rinds of any kind.
