Priests should be the representives of God. and interrupt and spread God's word.

I know the people of the catholic religion have a lot of respect for their priests and so called priests. I have never been a supporter of Priests. First off, they are living in a un-natural world. My own personal opinion has always been that, probably, many of them were queers. To my dismay, the world is finding out that MANY of them are actually sexual predators and prey on young boys.

Supposedly, Priests were celibate and remained that way for life. Unfortunately, we are seeing, more and more, that many of these so call Priests only see Priesthood as a never ending supply of young boys to sodomize. Because of their positions, these so called Priests can convince the young boys that it is "ok" to let him do what he wants to do. These young boys don't realize how wrong the Priest was until they grow up and into the "real" world. Then they talk.

Sadly, there are so called "preachers" in every religion that should be in prison for what they have done, but this question is about Catholic Priests. Pops

The definition of "priest" is "one who offers sacrifice on behalf of the people". That ministry alone defines a priest, which is why Protestant churches don't have priests. They have ministers, who preach and teach and counsel and administrate - but an ordinary layperson can do all of those things. The Catholic Church has priests, who offer the Eternal Sacrifice of the Cross to God until the end of time, just as Christ commanded at the end of the first Catholic Mass. There are also other specifically priestly ministries like the forgiveness of mens' sins in God's name, as described in the Bible. But without the sacrificial ministry such ministers still would not be called priests.

Literally, it's one who intercedes with God for others who are under his/her spiritual care. One of the main points of the Protestant Reformation was "the priesthood of all believers," meaning that we can go to God directly without an intermediary.

The term "priest" refers to one who makes sacrifice to God for the people.

The sacrifical aspect is what makes a priest different from a minister.
