There is a lot of research showing that weed/THC is much harder on your lungs than nicotine. THC is stickier, and it is less pure than cigarettes, people can inhale bacteria when they smoke weed. It sounds like your dad might have chronic obstructive lung disease, which definitely can be caused by smoking. Smoking weed is worse. (He also could have asthma, or have been exposed to something bad in the air for a long time, maybe where he works, where he used to live, etc.)

Yes, it can cause lung cancer and other respiratory problems. Here is why; when you smoke weed, it is not filtered, meaning you are inhaling any impurities. You are also inhaling very hot gases produced by the weed. Studies I read show it can even be more dangerous than cigarettes because of these two things mentioned. Beyond cigarette smoking, it does have an affect on other organs of your body; males-affects testicles and sperm production, brain cell loss, throat lesions and cancers, mouth cancers, etc. The list goes on.

Smoking marjauana is 5 times stronger than smoking a cigarette. It is even more harmful to your lungs than smoking a cigarette. The THC creates tar on your lungs just as you would see it on a marjuana pipe that you smoke out of. Smoking anything that has chemicals that is not good for lungs is going to cause some kind of cancer.

I would think any kind of tobacco smoke going into the lungs will cause cancer and the thing with weed is you try to exhale as little as possible too, which makes it worse in my opinion.

According to a recent UCLA pulmonary study, smoking marijuana is not harmful to the lungs. In fact, they found that if anything, marijuana prevents lung cancer, creating a shield of sorts from disease.

If you smoke weed on a regular basis, it will harm your lungs. If you do it once in a while, it will mess up your brain, and kill brain cells.
