Take some time to research some of the breeds that appeal to you... It sounds like from your circumstances you are looking for a medium to large breed dog, one that can interact safely with your G. Dane, and which will not bounce off the walls if it doesnt get a 2 hour run every day.
I recommend dogs in the hound or non-sporting category. These breeds -tend- to have lower energy needs, and do not include the toy breeds.
I myself breed Rhodesian Ridgebacks, which are very active outdoors when given the opportunity to run, but can live with 2 walks a day & no free running with no problems. They also are the true 'couch potato' of the dog world, & will not bounce off the walls when indoors!
I have also had Standard Poodles in the past, which I find to be a very intelligent breed, and also one which can be active with you but does not require enormous room or time for running free. However, there is a grooming factor to take into consideration.
Take a visit to the AKC website, www.akc.org, and you can pull up pictures & descriptions of the breeds. Once you find one you like, contact some breeders in your area to see if you can visit their kennel, see their adult dogs & further discuss your needs & their breeds ability to meet them.
Best of luck to you!

I would recommend not getting a puppy if you don't have a lot of time to devote to it.Puppies are just like children or babies. They need a lot of care and attention.Maybe you would do better with a young adult. That way you don't have to potty train and it doesn't take much time to get them used to the idea of patiently waiting for you while you are away at work or whatever. If your house doesn't have a lot of room i would also recommend a medium size like 30 to 40 pounds.shelties are an excellent breed, they are both family oriented and they are also excellent watch dogs. They do well in a smaller home as well as thrive in a farm like enviroment.Plus their loyalty can't be beat.

Puppies take a lot of care. If you can't spend time with the puppy for a few hours every day, and make sure it gets out every two hours, now is not the time no matter what breed.

If your much too busy, don't get a dog. I have a job like any other person, but I have enough time for my dogs. If you work during the day for maybe 8-10 hours, try getting a breed like a grey-hound because, although they need to get rid of energy, they often times get rid of it all at once on one walk, so mybe a whippet or grey-hound like I said.

Ultimately, the choice is yours, but I do know that Shih-tzu's are really nice dogs. But no matter what dog you get you are going to have to make enough time to train and take care of your new puppy.

I would get a lab because they are good loyal dogs. they are good with kids. Labs are easy to potty train and get along with other dogs well. Be sure you think about the breed you want, and make Sure you have time for them. You could also adopt one

If you have a small house, a small dog is what you need. It is not fair to have a big dog closed up inside a small house all day with nothing to do.
