All it means is that we don't know everything. We've learned quite a bit in the short time since we developed written language and the scientific method, and the rate of learning is accelerating. We'll learn more in the next 10 years than we've learned in the last 100. We'll probably understand the nature of dark matter in the next 10-20 years, and I would bet long odds that it won't require any supernatural explanation.

Dark matter only establishes that there's stuff out there we still don't understand. It's hard to conclusively say it proves spiritual forces, since it's difficult to give a scientific definition to such a concept.

I mean, there was a time that quantum particles were not known to us - does their existence prove spiritual forces?

Before one can determine whether something is a proof of spiritual forces, one needs to really peg down what spiritual forces are, exactly.

The mind boggles indeed. Higher species? In what sense?

Nope.

75 years ago we didn't understand blood types.

125 years ago we didn't understand atomic power. We didn't know how to make artificial fertilizer, either.

200 years ago, we didn't know how to make a steam engine. Boats moved by being blown around by the wind, or else paddled with oars.

250 years ago, doctors were sure that the way to treat about half the things wrong with a person was to bleed them. They put leeches on their skin and let them suck their blood out. In severe cases, they deliberately cut them and let their life-giving blood drain away, further injuring them.

And this doesn't talk about antibiotics, internal combustion, computers, electricity, psychology, food safety, refrigeration, and any of a whole raft of other topics.

All our lack of knowledge about dark matter proves is that we don't know all about it yet.

No, it means we have no idea what constitutes 90% of the universe's mass. Looking for meaning is okay, but don't look for any where there isn't any.
