build a bigger fence!!!

- Seriously, all the other options are either expensive or will hurt the dog, and the leash will probably annoy it - the dog needs its freedom!

For now, take him out to the yard on leash.

Does he jump the fence because he's bored? Is he chasing something? Does he do it constantly or just occasionally? The longer this has been going on, the more challenging it will be to correct, which is why you want to take him out on leash for now -- practice makes perfect, so letting him practice jumping the fence will make him an awesome jumper.

Please don't consider chaining your dog outside, but if you need to, underground "invisible" fencing is a good option for many people. It's not my favorite, but it beats the heck out of having poochie run wild or play in traffic. An overhead run might be an option as well, although I assume that this would only be under supervision, and you would need to take care that the run would NOT reach the fence, lest your dog hang himself.

There are many ways to stop your dog from jumping a fence. One simple but a little on the expensive. Between $200. to $500.There is a kit that you can purchase from most pet stores or on line, which is a device that is placed at the perimeters or your yard. Once you place these, you put on a collar that comes with the kit on your dog. Every time your dog gets close to the placed devices. Through the collar, you dog will get a little shock or vibration. This tens to stop the dog from trying to leave. Either that or bring him to your vet and have the tendons in his back legs cut. That's a little extreme, but the dog can no longer jump.

Does your dog like you? Have you talked to him lately regarding this behavior? He is upset about something. Anyone moved in or out of the house?

Do not use an electric fence or shock collar. It will only make him dislike you more than he already does. You have a problem. He could be bored too. Do you walk him? Play ball games with him in the yard? Give him a talk and if his behavior does not change you might have to call in the Dog Whisperer for a session or two to get you two back on track.

Go take him for a walk and give him a big hug. It will make both of you feel better......

We finally learned that the best kind of fenace to keep dogs in is the wooden privacy fence. They can't jump it or dig out from under it. It costs more, but it is worth it.

TRAINING. a good basic obedience class taught by a qualified, professional trainer. all dogs should respond to basic commands like: come, sit, stay, etc. it is unfair to ask something of our pets without having trained them to it first. obedience class also teaches the owner how to give the commands correctly. if we just yell at the dog, how is he supposed to know what he did wrong, or, what exactly you wanted in the first place?

take the time for some training. you'll be glad you did it and he'll be a better behaved dog for the next several years of your lives together:)

break his legs....no j/k. have you tried those wireless things you put around the fence and if the dog goes past it, it will make a horrid noise that will drive the dog nuts? sorry, don't know what they are called, but my neighbor has one and the dog doesn't run off anymore at all.
