i have pain in the nape of my neck with swelling, radiates to my finger tips. i basically do computer work, working long hours, it hurts me a lot. i tried walking, jogging, and exercising to check if it would help but it only worsens my pain and swelling. going up and down stairs hurt a lot. bending and picking up weights hurt badly as well. A doctor diagnosed me as having brachial nuralgia but i doubt as the symptoms correlate to cervical spondylosis, can anybody help me out giving the correct diagnosis for my symptoms.

Brachial Neuritis is somewhat of a rare disease, how did they diagnose you? did you have tests done, mri, cat scan, emg, neck and upper back xrays?

There's so many things that it could be and even just a pinched nerve can cause all the symptoms you mention. It sounds to me like something is going on with the C5,6,7, T1,2 area. I have problems in that area too from swelling, but mine is lymphedema related. It could be misalignment, tendons, erector muscle spasms, scar tissue, etc.

Computer work, how is your monitor? Is your chair ergonomatically correct? Your monitor should be level with your face, you should not be looking down at it. Your keyboard should be level with your arms and your feet flat on the floor sitting up straight.

I'm not a doctor but I have tons of neck problems. What I would suggest is to get some tests done that I mention above, go to an orthopedic doctor for evaluation and review of the tests.

In the meantime, see what you can do about work if the work station isn't good for your posture. What kind of pillow do you use? A good pillow will help too, try a water pillow. Most chiropractors sell them and they help alot. When your neck is swollen alot use ice. Don't exercise, just do the rotation stretches, try to touch your chin to your chest, each ear to the same side shoulder, and lean your head back and look up at the sky. Do these at work, take 5 minute breaks each hour and do them. Do them in the shower under warm water. When your neck is not as swollen try moist heat. There are creams like biofreeze, sombra, and mineral ice that help pain by cooling which is better for the swelling. A chiropractor or physical therapist could do ultrasound on the area which would definitely help. A massage therapist could work the muscles and the specially trained ones that do manual lymph drainage can help get the swelling down as well.

We really can't diagnose you on the internet, especially without seeing reports, etc but at least we can help steer you to some help so you can find out what is really wrong and help with some suggestions until you get a true diagnosis.

You need to see another doctor. They aren't always right you know. You shouldn't expect a proper diagnosis on the web hon. It's dangerous to try this route for something that is obviously serious.

This really isn't the best place to get your diagnosis. I agree you should see your Dr & if your not happy with what he had to say than try getting a second opinion. Good Luck!

Ummm...no, but maybe you should go to another doctor for a second opinion. Remember, doctors are usually taking their best "educated guess"
