Actually, your local power company is less concerned with the exact voltage as they are the frequency. 60 hertz is what they attempt to maintain, and no more than 2% deviation is usually allowed by your local Public Utilities Commission. Most devices don't really care about even a 10% deviation in frequency--your clocks DO as to be accurate, they need 60 hertz.
