A rifled barrel with sabots is as close as you can get to ultimate accuracy with a shotgun. If you just want to shoot slugs you can just buy a smoothbore slug barrel for that gun, they;re certainly out there. You can shoot slugs out of an improved cylinder choke too you just won't have the rifle sight but a bead like for shot. You sure don't have to give anything up with sabots. You can get the same weight and powder charge you get with a regular slug.

First off you do not have to only shoot saboted slugs in a rifled barrel any slug in that gage will work just maybe not as well. Riffed slugs will work just fine in a rifled barrel. If you look at a rifled slug you find that the rifling on the slug is in the opposite direction as the rifling in the barrel this gives a place for the lead to go when it is displaced by the rifling in the barrel. This is what BRENNEKE has to say about your question. [I added rifled but that is what they are talking about] Link to the answer. http://www.brennekeusa.com/start.html
Question: What happens if I shoot your [rifled] slug in a rifled barrel?
Answer: All our slugs can be shot from rifled barrels. No problem at all. Normally you will achieve even higher precision from a rifled barrel than from a smoothbore barrel. Groups of under 4" at 100 yards are no problem from a rifled barrel with our normal slugs.
However, we have two specialists, slugs designed for use in rifled barrels only: Gold Magnum, a 13/8 oz slug and our SuperSabot, a 11/8 oz expanding (up to 1") brass slug. These two products provide maximum accuracy (under 2" groups at 100 yards) from a rifled barrel, at ranges of over 100 yards.

As the others said, there are other types of slug loads to use, cheaper than sabots too.

Another option is to use a smooth slug barrel, then you can put regular shotshells through it too. There are longer shot barrels available for the 500 also. Take a look online, or at your local sporting goods store.
