A Messianic Jew is someone who is an ethnic Jew, they are descendants of Abraham, but who believes in Jesus Christ as savior. Jew can mean two things. It can mean someone of the religion of Judaism, or it can describe someone who is of the Jewish ethnicity.

A follower of a weird form of Protestant Christianity that has some of the externalk trappings of Judaism thus calls itself a Judaism despite the only ones who recognize it as such are the Messianics themselves along with some Evangelical groups. The said follower him/herself was likely born Jewish though not neccessarily so considering the fairly high percentage of non Jews who are members of "messianic" congregations.

as said... a Jewish person cannot believe in Jesus as the messiah, God, or any more divine than you or I.
to believe such things, means one is no longer jewish.
"Messianic Judaism" and "Jews for Jesus' is a deliberate deception, in order to prey upon religiously and spiritually isolated jewish people, and draw them away from God and their religious beliefs and heritage, by decieving them that they aren't really leaving their religion and God, when in fact they are.

Messianic jews are Christians.
(I might add that the *majority* of messianic jews are not ethnic jews in any sense of the term.)
