I will be getting married in PA in Spring 2008, and want to go somewhere fun for our honeymoon (maybe somewhere in Europe or Carribean). Should I use a travel agent?
-Side notes:
1) By fun I mean scuba diving, deep sea fishing, site seeing, etc. not getting drunk all week long at local pubs.
2) Budget preferably $2000 or less.

Yes, use an all inclusive travel agent with a 24 hour assistance line... That way if you do run into a problem 1 call and the problem is not the agents and you can relax it's thier job to fix it all...

When my husband and I took a second honeymoon for our 10th anniversary (A cabin on Lake Tahoe) when we arrived the cabin was cold 40 degrees, and there was no firewood... When we booked the Cabin it was suposed to be heated to 60 degrees with gas heat and there was supposed to be firewood available... One call to the travel agent and 2 hour and we had firewood and the propane gas tank was filled... My husband and I went for a drink and dinner then returned to a cabin that was properly heated (60 degrees as our contract stated) with the wood in place... Without the travel agent we would have had to handle the problems on our own which isn't something we wanted to deal with on our romantic get away...

With $2000 as your budget, I think you should stay closer to home. Check the NET-my daughter has taken her kids scuba diving in the Caribbean, to several different places. Once you have some ideas on where to go, then contact a travel agent for the final planning. But, do have some ideas as to what you want to do before going to a travel agent. Close to1/2 of your budget will probably be airfare. But, a travel agent (one who has resources to wholesale flight prices) can get you the best price here. Or, a package deal thru a travel agent will give you a good price on the whole trip.

The only time I used an agent was when I won $2000 in travel bucks though a radio station. I scheduled two short trips. The one to an area that spoke a different language was wonderful. No communication problems what-so-ever. The domestic trip had a lot of communication gaps, like how we were getting from the airport to the motel and people at our destination saying that the agency didn't exist even though I had travel brochures in my hand.

Since then, I've always done my own booking online. I've done airline tickets, hotels/motels, rental cars. I always been able to stay within a decent budget. I would recomend doing priceline.com, orbitz.com, or something simular. I've done really good with them. Good luck and congrats!

It would be best to use a travel agent. They can get the best prices and get everything you want included in your package deal. And you should have less of a chance of getting bumped from your flight that way too.

I have traveled many times in the past in Europe and Asia. and i enjoyed more my trips which we traveled on our own expense. It is more expensive if you go to a travel agency and the tour schedules are very hectic..
With your budget and the kind of fun you would like to have why don't you go to Thailand. It is so cheap to go there and they offer lots of fun. You go back to ancient history and see lots of temples, crocodiles, wind sutfing, etc. With your budget you are spending like a king in Thailand. Your budget can last you more than a week hotel accomodations, lots of sightseeing and lots of shoppings !Europe is expensive !Think about it.! .

I say get a travel agent so they can tell you the hot spots and where not to go. They know how to get the cheaper deals in the nicest resorts.
