Ok I understand (and agree with) a dress code of modesty. I find it admirable that a society would not its women to dress modest respectful manner. The one thing I do not get is this.

When I was in the Middle East I saw Muslim women with their hair covered and clothing covering most of their bodies right next to them though were Muslim men in shorts a t shirt and sandals. Now I understand when you’re doing labor in the heat you want to dress lightly but this seemed to be the norm. And I find it odd that a society would not have a similar code of modest dress for its men as well.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Well men are not as attractive as women are, no offense. But still, they certainly do have rules for being modest. They cannot go around with their shirt off or shirt unbuttoned enough for the chest to show. they should not wear short shorts. They actually should avoid wearing shorts altogether, but its not really considered a big deal. The prophet Muhammad never showed his legs and the men are supposed to follow his example. I'm a girl and i dont find anything interesting about guys in shorts. though, they really shouldn't because the men aren't supposed to pray in shorts and should be covered and also wear a cap. sandals are no problem. women can wear flip flops or heels or anything else. also men cant wear tight jeans, pants, or shirts either all according to Islam but the society practicing it is a different subject. Also, to be modest, men aren't supposed to stare at the women or flirt with them. t shirts are acceptable though
hope it helps

There is a male dress code, its just not as extensive becuase we have less to cover. We ar to cover what is between the navel and the knees. We do not wear gold or silk either.
Modesty is a major part of it, but think about, at least in America, more men are going to look at woman that's wearing hijab than one that isn't just becuase they find it strange, out of place or interesting that she is wearing it, am I right. Would that defeat the purpose.
The main reason for the dress codes is not just modesty and covering one's skin (which is a major part) it's about loving Allah and following his commands, including the dress code.
When a child is told by his/her parents not to steal from the cookie jar, he/she refrains from doing so not becuase the cookie is unhealthy (which it is anyway) but becuase the child listens to its parents. A child loves its parents and will do what they say, that is, if he/she is a good kid.

I converted to Islam 5 1/2 years ago. As someone else has said, men do have a dress code, but it is not as strict. One needs only to use common sense to figure out why. God knows human nature, because He is the one who created our natures. The woman he caused to be much more soft, and beautiful, while the man more rough around the edges. Women were created to be emotionally attracted first to a man, and men were created to be physically attracted first to a woman, since they are created equal, but differently.

These guidelines are used to prevent several things. First, women covering themselves protects the men from sinning by lusting after them so that adultery is prevented on the attraction level. Plus it protects the women from being looked at in a sexual way, which protects them from rape. I've also though about it and it seems to me that if every woman wore the Islamic dress (with or without full face covering) there would be less jealousy and competition between women, and therefore less eating disorders associated with body image issues.

Also, on a different level, if a man marries a covered woman, it actually builds her self esteem, since I know that every woman out there would adore a man who loved her more for her personality than her looks.

Now, as for why the male's dress code isn't as strict, I think (and God knows best) that it's just because women by nature are most likely to be attracted to a man on the emotional level, more than on a physical level.

My husband was actually talking about this subject tonight and brought up a good point. He was saying that if a woman's arm was uncovered, it would be more likely for a man to have the desire to touch her skin. Then he asked me if I saw a man with his arms uncovered, if the thought would even cross my mind to touch his skin. I honestly have to say that would not be on my mind, as I don't find men's skin attractive to me.

Thank U 4 being so respectful. Men R aroused by a women in shorts and the smallest top ever, women are not. Do U think a woman goes wild seeing a man in shorts? God created us and knows our weak points. Men R weak in this field. Thus it is better that we R covered to protect us from men's prying eyes. Shall I add that men in Muslims countries cannot have 'the pleasure' outside marriage? They must behave themselves until they R married. I supposed they satisfy themselves with looking only. Thus, again, their eyes R prying more than those of countries with freedom in such relationships outside marriage. I wear the hijab. It is really hot here, but it is hotter in hell.
Get my point?

The right picture of lslam is conveyed in the Qur'an, which is exemplified by Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. The reality is that it is not fair to judge a religion by the actions of its followers alone because there are good and bad followers in every religion. The correct thing to do is to judge a religion by its documented revelation from God and the prophet who brought that revelation
----------

The original, unchanged revelations given to Abraham and other prophets(like Moses and Jesus ) reaching back to Adam all came from the One True God(The Creator). This common origin explains their similarities in many beliefs and values

However, over time the teachings of the various religions, due to a variety of reasons, have become distorted and mixed with made-man ideas.

The last Prophet and Messenger of God, Muhammad , who is a direct descendant of Abraham through his first born son, Ishmael, was sent with the Last Guidance, Revelation and Testament, the Holy Qur'an(koran) to amend and correct the changes and corruption made to the the "Torah" which was sent to Moses and theTrue Gospel of Jesus. To say the truth ,God preserved all the other Holy Books plainly by preserving His Last Book the Holy Qur'an(koran)which contains the right and the truth of all that was changed in those other Books.

This is why this last Revelation which was sent 1423 years ago has remained unchanged, not even a word or a letter has been altered.

There is not even one word of difference between two Arabic Qur'ans, anywhere in the world. There has been no disagreements in history among Muslims as to what should and should not be in the Qur'an. However, in the case of the Bible, even the most ancient manuscripts conflict with one another so that no two are identical. Footnotes in all modern versions of the Bible prove this fact.

These revisions serve as concrete proofs that all the Biblical books are not at all divinely inspired. This is because it is beyond man's ability to correct the work of his Creator, who alone is Almighty and perfect

It was only natural for Almighty God to preserve the scripture revealed to Prophet Muhammad, because he was the last Prophet and Final Messenger of God.

Islam teaches us that we must pray directly to God without an intermediary and no soul can bear the burden of another and that the nature of humanity is good, and we did not inherit sin from Adam. Each soul comes into being free of sin.in Islam there are no priests or clergy -- each worshipper, man or woman, has a direct relationship with their Merciful Creator -- Almighty God. Since God is the Owner and Sustainer of everything, as well as the only one who can provide true and complete forgiveness, it is completely futile to try to approach Him through anyone else.

The oneness and universality of God's message requires that people accept all the messengers of God. Rejecting one of them amounts to rejecting them all. The Jews reject Jesus's mission and Muhammad's mission; the Christians reject Muhammad's mission; whereas the Muslims accept them all, but reject incorrect historical interpretations and human elements in these missions.

As the Qur'an is the final revelation and Muhammad is the final prophet, humanity is obligated to accept it: "If anyone desires a religion other than Islam, never will it be accepted of him; and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost all spiritual good" (3:86).

The Final Prophet Muhammad said: "Whoever believes there is no god but God, alone without partner, that Muhammad is His messenger, that Jesus is messenger of God, and that Paradise and Hell are true, shall be received by God into Heaven."

you can do that now as you are reading these lines is to pronounce the two confirmations and attestations of faith, here it is

I BEAR WITNESS THAT THERE IS NO GOD WORTHY OF WORSHIP EXCEPT ALLAH ( ARABIC WORD MEANS ONE GOD-THE CREATOR). AND I BEAR WITNESS THAT MUHAMMAD IS HIS SERVANT AND MESSENGER. I BEAR WITNESS THAT JESUS IS HIS SERVANT AND MESSENGER.

I encourage Christians and other religions to learn about Islam from Muslim sources and The Basis Of The Muslim Belief and not rely on second hand information which in many cases is distorted or contains a deep seated anti Muslim agenda. This is indeed a more scholarly approach
