We also have a little chihuahua. When we noticed that she was constipated, we took her to the vet. He expressed the anal glands that all dogs have. Sometimes those things fill up & block the opening to the anus. It is pretty nasty though so I wouldn't do it myself.

You can mix a teaspoon each of mineral oil and Benefiber into some canned dog food, and make sure she's drinking enough water.A little milk might help as well.Don't try to put the mineral oil directly into her mouth,as she could aspirate it and get a serious pneumonia.Only give it mixed in food, and not more than 2 or 3 times a week. You can also give her a handful of Cheerios everyday-it really helps.Veggies are good, too,if she'll eat them, and infant glycerin suppositories will usually produce a bowel movement in a few minutes,If things don't improve, though ,you should ask your vet.Good Luck.

You can give your pet up to 2 teaspoons daily of mineral oil and being a small Chihuahua I would suggest giving her about 1/3 of a teaspoon every 4 hrs. for a couple of times, this should do the trick. The site below has household meds you can give your pet.

I agree with the canned pumpkin. It works. If it doesn't work, then you can take to the vet to see if there is an obstruction.

A teaspoon of pumpkin may help. But, you need to get her into a vet if this doesn't work within 24 hours.

My vet reccomends canned pumpkin.NOT pumpkin pie filling, but just plain canned pumpkin. A TBS a day for small dogs. Our toy poodle used to get constipated and have anal gland issues until I started giving this to her. And she loves it! HTH

My suggestion would be to contact a local veterinarian. Dogs aren't usually constipated in the true sense of the word. She may have an intestinal blockage and attempting to cure it yourself and/or ignoring it could cost your dog her life.

3 little letters. EAG, which means Express Anal Glands. Take it to the vet and they'll know what you are talking about.
