I honestly don't think that guys really notice it or think that much about the way a girl eats or anything, but I do know that there are lots of girls with this fear. They don't want to gulp down a meal and be perceived as a fat hog or they just don't want to look weird. I had this fear when I was younger but I eventually convince myself that guys are not so engrossed in how you eat. Just calm down, relax, and eat like you always do. If you try too hard to "eat right", then you will draw more attention to yourself, which is the exact opposite of what you want.

To be honest this is the first time I have heard about this happening .To me this sounds weird as you say ,I can understand being shy but not eating with you is very strange .I wonder if this has what her parents have taught her I am certainly going to read any answers you get to see what others think .Usually it is the opposite for a shy person because while your eating you have to talk less .I would give this best Question of the week .hope you get some good answers it has never happend to me or any of my friends .The only time any similarity has occured was when the woman was on a diet to loose weight..

In a Western culture being too shy to even eat around a man is a little over the top. You should practice opening that part of your life up. Work on your self confidence and esteem. Sharing meals is a warm and wonderful part of romance. Don't miss out on it!

Being too shy to eat is really part of a bigger issue. The real issue is her self of confidence and self esteem. I'm not at all trying to be in the least critical...honestly. So, it's not that it would bother me so much that she was too shy to eat in front of me as much as I just wish she'd be comfortable enough with me that she could eat or do whatever else she wanted to, you know.

Some girls with body image problems might not want to eat in front of you because they might think that you would think they were a pig or something. Eating disorders are a possiblity, but if you stop making an issue of it and just let her be herself she will get more comfortable with you. Lots and lots of girls just pick in front of men, its a girl thing

I belive that its normal 4 gurls to be shy eating in front of boys because they dont want to be a slob or gredy thats why most of the time when gurls are about to go on a date they eat before they get there

A girl from Tennessee I know spent a few years in Japan and now she eats with her palm or fingers in front of her mouth so people cannot see her chewing and said it's courtesy over there, so I guess some people are concered(?) that someone will be grossed out. I can appreciate that in some people and wish for it with others.

i'm a girl and i find nothing "weird" about eating in front of guys. there's nothing wrong with eating when you're hungry but just watch your manners and don't stuff yourself
besides, if you eat A LOT and he's paying, that would get him a little annoyed lol

Eating is a natural thing. As long as good table manners are observed, there should be no reason to be shy. When I go on a date I try not to eat something messy. That usually helps.

I've never heard of that. Why would anyone be too shy to eat in front of anyone? ~ unless they ate like Cookie Monster or something... why would anyone care?
