Navy would be better, I think. Or even royal blue.

the color of her gown doesnt matter as much as the formality of it. By saying you dont want ot wear black does that mean you will not wear black or just that you would prefer not to?

If her dress is very formal, your tux should be very formal (which usaully means black).

But the season also matters (its easier to get away with a gray tux in summer or spring, but not so much in fall or winter).

Then again, as everyone else said, its your wedding and you can do what you want - but the best person to ask is your fiance. As Im sure you already know, or will find out soon enough, she is always right...about everything.

The gray tuxedo is, traditionally, chosen for daytime, often outdoor, events. Now-days, individuality and creativity is the trend. I recommend lighter colored accessories with the light gray tux if it is a daytime, outdoor affair. For indoor and/or evening nuptials, look for stronger or darker colors when choosing accessories. It is not absolutely necessary that your tie and cummerbund, or vest, match her dress. If your intended insists on a black tuxedo, ask her to consider a charcoal-gray one. Charcoal is becoming more popualr as an alternative to the standard black tux. It is dark enough to fit the formal atmosphere, yet just different enough to please those who are bored with 'basic black'. If she's not having it, try pairing a gray jacket with the back pants. Just be prepared: after all of your protests, excuses and bargaining, you might end up in the black one, anyway. Don't fight it - it's about making her happy. In my area, there is a commercial for the 'Men's Warehouse' that talks about the amount of money paid out for the Bride's gown, the flowers and caterer - and the, more modest, cost of the Groom's tuxedo. The message is reassure the Groom that it is All money well spent, because 'while all eyes are on Her...She'll be looking at You. Mushy? Yeah. Point taken?...Yeah.

I'm no expert on that, but I'd say go for it. Or take a gray tux jacket and hold it next to the dress. See what it looks like. What I would NOT do if I were you, however, is wear an ivory shirt with your tux. Ivory dresses are pretty, but ivory shirts tend to just look dirty under a tux since you can't see very much of them.

My wedding ceremony gown is Ivory trimmed in Apple (additionally from David's Bridal). My fiancee is donning a black tux with an ivory tie and vest. 2 of my bridesmaid's outfits are Apple. The cooresponding groomsmen will placed on black tuxes with Apple ties. the different 2 bridesmaid robes are Latte, and their groomsmen are donning black tuxes with latte upload-ons. they're all donning Ivory shirts. i in my opinion think of Ivory and White conflict. this is why i'm sticking to all Ivory. additionally, in case your groom wears an Ivory vest, you may get one with texture so as that it seems somewhat distinctive and not basically a sheer Ivory vest. they have some thrilling textures at adult males's Warehouse, that's a sister business enterprise of David's Bridal. stable success!

They do have suits and tuxes that are a cream color. A cream or Ivory tux will look better than gray. Ultimately black would look best. Good Luck!

Get a brown/chocolate suit or khaki.

Also at Mens Warehouse, there are black tuxes with chocolate vests & ties that go very nice with ivory. This is what I'm doing for my wedding.

I had an ivory gown and my (ex)husband wore gray. It looked nice. I would go with a charcoal gray rather than a light gray, though.

Gray is a fairly dull color, and in photos, does not work very well. Color options that work well with ivory and look good in pics would be navy blue, a dark chocolate brown, ivory (yes, it can be done) or silver.

sometimes matching does not go well with couples, if one is wearing dark color the other might want to wear something bit lighter. on my engagement party i wore pink the darkest pink you can think of (maganta) and my fiance wore gray tux with roayl blue shirt that matched the little flowers on my dress. it looked amazingg...if youa re going to wear tux wear light ivory shirt under it and a dark ivery (that matches her dress) a hanke for the pocket...hmmmm i can imagin it too now..lolz :-D
