It's warm and in a high place. Cats love this. My cat loves to sleep on the water heater. Keeps her out of my bed!!

Top of a fridge is usually warm. Cats tend to feel safer well of the floor. Maybe it sleeps there to stay safe from kids, dogs, or any threat it may be feeling. And it will sytay in better shape, jumping up that high. As long as it is OK with you, it isn't doing any harm. Now on the table or counters, That is a different story.

When my brother was younger, HE would climb on top of the fridge and yowl whenever my wife walked into the kitchen. Now THAT was bizarre.

I had a stray for about a week that liked the top of my fridge and I thought it was because he wanted to stay away from my cat.. but it could just be because it's warm up there and it's got a nice view!

Cats are funny that way and choose some very strange places to sleep...my cats like the top of my fridge sometimes too...I guess your cat feels safe all the way on top of the fridge where he/she can keep and eye on things...

Two things: cats love cardboard boxes to snuggle in becuase they are warm and cats love to perch on high things (like top of fridge, top of cupboards, bookcases) where they feel safe and have the advantage on any would-be predator. So, a box on top of the fridge is too good to be true as far as your kitty is concerned.

The heat from the fridge is 1 of the reasons, but a cat will try to get as high as they can.A natural sense of security up high.

Every cat I have ever had has loved to lay in boxes. It gives them a safe, cozy place to stay. Some cats like to sleep in weird places to get some nice sleep.I know that I have a poodle that always annoys my cat, whenever my poodle is out and about she sleeps on the top of the cabinets and the refrigerator.

Cats naturally climb to the highest point they can find.

It is all about being the Alpha Cat... just like the leader of the pack, to a dog. In the cat kingdom, the leader, or the most influential, always perches the highest.
