Atlanta is a progressive city but any city can be because it is what YOU make it. I live in Atlanta and it is considered the "new south". It's a city that is growing by leaps and bounds, and it is a very non-traditional southern city. I moved here from Ohio when I was 24 and I have been here 8 years now an dth emain thing that keeps me here is the great weather. Atlanta is a city where you will meet people from everywhere because of the many opprotunities here. There also is a large gay population here so you have to be open minded to that if you want to move here. There are a decent amount of jobs here and some websites to check out for employment would be www.ajcjobs.com, www.careerbuilder.com and www.hotjobs.com. Housing prices are decent and the cost of living is pretty equal to the housing/rent rates.
Nightlife is still pretty good. You will find a lot of clubs downtown, in midtown and some in Buckhead. Go to www.creativeloafing.com to find out more about the happening spots. The bad thing is that Atlanta is very overcrowed and the traffic sucks. If I were you, I would find an apartment close to where you are going to work because traffic is just horrible. Depending on the area of town a 1-2 bedroom apartment can range from $600-800 for a 1 bedroom and $900-1,100 for a 2 bedroom so you might as well BUY a home or a townhouse because it makes more sense to buy when it will be in the same price to rent.
The main thing that is really bad is the crime rate and the public school system. Georgia is number 49 is the state when it comes to education. I'm still trying to understand how a state this wealthy can allow this to happen. Also crime is on the rise in certain cities like Riverdale and some parts of Clayton county so I would advise you not to move there. Good luck!

i'm only repeating what a trucker told me.... the beltway around atlanta is referred to by truckers as the "watermelon 500" every single car in atlanta has a dent, and if you do not go 90 on the freeway, you will be run over.
whenever i move to a new city, i call the police station of the local area *not 911* and ask about the crime and number of calls of that area.

i will flow to Waller, Texas next month (Dec) then round April, i'd flow to Houston to stay there continuously, yet i'm nonetheless debating if it really is a correct and good decision. I had 2 thoughts :Houston, TX or Toms River, NJ. Please help considering that your critiques about Houston kinda freak me out
