Yes, sweet potatoes and any vegetable or fruit high in fiber (celery, apples, bananas, collard greens, etc.) will lower cholesterol, in addition to eating lean meats.

The rich, deep orange color of the flesh of sweet potatoes is a good hint that this root vegetable is rich in beta-carotene, which is converted into vitamin A in the body. In fact, just 3/4 cup of sweet potatoes provides up to eight times more vitamin A from beta-carotene than the RDA for this nutrient.

However, don’t be concerned about overdosing on vitamin A from sweet potatoes. The beta-carotene form of this nutrient protects against toxicity.

Sweet potatoes are also a very good source of dietary fiber, as well as a number of other vitamins and minerals, including manganese, potassium, vitamin C, and more.

sweet potatoes alone will not lower your cholesterol. to lower your cholesterol you need a mixture of regular exercise and balanced diet. Sweet potatoes are good though for the diet part because they contain plenty of vitamins.
