...these answers SUCK!

yes i kow its an old question but there is still no answer. btw if you read the news you would know that the egg came first because the as the animal evolved more and more, the first animal to be what would be considored today to be a modern day chicken would have come from an animal of a slightly different species.

btw yall have some really rude answers for people who are convinced that there is an all powerfull and pissed off God bent on sending us to an eternity of horrid torture. if i believed that i might watch what i say.

figato, im not a genious but im a hell of a lot smarter than you.

what you think youre smart just cause you know what the word theology means? and it didnt happen over the course of 2000 years. Youve got Jesus who lived to be like 30 and then the new testament was written like a couple hundred years later right? ...yeah thats reliable.

..i was just asking a fun question. you were just being a dick. and so now im being a dick back. ...this is boring.

put him first, it looks like youre the one stringing words together, i have no idea what you just said.

my question is simple, i can remember asking it when i was like 6 years old. let me ask it again and you focus real hard...

"can God create a rock so heavy that even he cant lift it?"

2006-11-04 12:39:37 · update #4

arewe.... get real... how do you even know that im NOT a christian asking other christians?

im just asking you to think. im not even asking you to question the faith that you have so foolishly and firmly rooted your answers in (although if we were to look at ANYONES life who answered their question it would be very unchristian).

by the way im not 4 years old so...nm youre already lost arent you?

I think the point of your question is to raise an apparent contradiction with Christianity: God is all powerful, yet if he did this, he would not be all powerful. Therefore, an all powerful God is nonsense. The fallacy of this question is in its incorrect definition of all powerful. To say God is all powerful is not to say God can do anything at all. It is to say God can do anything logically possible. That is how historic Christianity has used the phrase. For example, God cannot make a square circle. That is logically impossible. He cannot make 2 + 2 = 5. Likewise logically impossible. So to answer your question, no God cannot make a rock too big for him to pick up, that is logically impossible. He transcends everything he created.

By the way, the other answer are correct when they say this is an OLD objection.

it really is a loaded question because all rocks are "lifted" in area and G-d has no type and subsequently isn't armed nicely adequate to boost something in human words. possibly there's a more effective perfect version of that question, can G-d commit suicide? i imagine the answer remains no, because it isn't a human because projecting human thoughts on an intelligence not constrained by technique of meat or informed of the international by chemical reactions to stimuli like we are is way less in all chance to change into suicidal. So all anthropomorphic projections onto G-d fail.

Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. This reminds of Satan trying to convince Jesus to fall from a mountain top, to see if the Father would save him.

If man cannot fathom the fact that He has no beginning and no end, why should try to wrap our minds around something so trivial. If this is the kind of thing you truly wonder about God, He must be doing something right. Have a great night.

Well the Bible says that in the last days he will heave this world to and fro and move it off of its foundation or axis, so unless the rock is bigger than the earth don't think he can create something that he can't move, considering that the earth is already off its axix by 3 to 5 degrees.

Simple question, simple answer.

Yes, he can make a rock so heavy that even He can't lift it.

But, if he later chose to do so, through the power of Divine Faith, he could will Himself to do so.

Read your Bible. To paraphrase... Do not seek to put the Lord to the test.

No.

cannot make anything greater then Himself.

God cannot lie

Heb 6:18.... it is impossible for God to lie,

God cannot be tempted

Jas 1:13... For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;

God cannot die.
God cannot deny himself.

These just show how great and faithfull God truly is.

Another one who thinks he/she can refute 2000 years of theology in a single sentence.

You're a genius. Guess I should throw out my Bible now.

Edit--
Your answer belies your intelligence.
AND you don't know anything about canon AND you don't know
the definition of theology.
