That's not true- they do. Oprah served on a jury. You can't get much richer or more famous than that!

Just to clear things up, you do not have to be registered to vote to be called for jury duty. Also, they probably would not be very good on a jury since everyone would be focsed on them, and not on the case. Could you imagine Paris Hilton or Donald Trump on a jury?

It's probably fairly easy for them to get off of jury duty, because I imagine neither of the lawyers nor anyone else at the courthouse would really want them around turning the trial into a media circus.

It sounds like they get called but manage to get out of it more easily than the rest of us. The first link below is about a popular weatherman who was dismissed because the judge agreed he'd be too much of a distraction. The second link is a similar question featured in 'The Straight Dope,' that describes how Woody Allen just started ranting until he got dismissed. Sometimes I guess they pull through - the third link is a story about Oprah serving on a jury.
Good luck.

They probably do get called but don't make it to the jury for various reasons. Oprah served on a jury last year. I doubt if she was the foreperson though. They just don't get picked as much as we do so people can get as fair a trial as possible.

What makes you think they don't. Everyone who is registered to vote is and can be called to serve for jury duty. We just don't hear about celebrities or famous people being called to serve, but they are. If I knew one I'd ask for you, but unfortunately I am just common folk.

They get called, they just get excused from serving. It is probably just as well because having a celebrity on a jury could shift the trial away from the issues to a media circus.

Their public postition would be a threat to the neutrality of the jury. If a juror is concerned about his/her public image or has a flock of reporters following them, they will probably not get picked for a case (but they probably have to show up like everyone else)

They absolutley do. If you served on a jury in Manhattan (New York County) you would be surprised who you might end up on a jury with.

they do get called for jury duty. They just pay attorneys to get them out of it.
