Dictionary.com describes woman as:
1.the female human being (distinguished from man).
2.an adult female person.
THere is more to it than an actual dictionary definition. The other idea is just like younger males call themselves MAN.

It's not really based on age. A girl is someone young and still very innocent who doesn't know the ways of life fully. A woman is what a girl becomes when she matures mentally and can make her own decisions. Some girls never become a true woman and some women never were a girl.

Girls under are always in a rush to grow up, "Women" I think don't really apply untill mid to the late 20's when a person is relly capable of standing on thier own two feet, "women" is all about the maturity and ya we do call ourself girls alot because when your young you want to be older when you start getting older we like to hang on to the thought of being youthful. Not that we are old or anything

LOL, good question. Well when "girls" are young...they want so much to be WOMEN...so don't be surprised that so many of them refer to themselves as such. They are just trying to be "mature".
Real women, on the other hand, know that being a woman is responsibility, hard work, and as such refer to themselves as GIRLS....because they don't have to convince anyone that they are women...they know they are. But on the other hand, referring to themselves as girls, shows maturity and shows that they are playful and not afraid to have fun with the "child" that lives inside.
After all, as most adults will tell you young people...youth is wasted on the young!! LOL
Young people want so much to grow up and be adults, and adults just want to go back and be young, and by that I mean responsibility free and stress free....by the time you become an adult, and by the time you live to be old, you realize that people do become young again, and always have been...it's just your body that ages.

As a woman (I'm definitely over 18) ages, being called a 'girl' can be flattering. As a young woman, or as a teenage girl, it's flattering to be called a woman. You never have what you want (to be grown up or to have your youth back). For the record, I'm a woman, proud to be a woman and don't want to be confused for a girl.

Yes, I know the difference, and I am over 18. Why does it matter if you get your questions answered, just wondering, not trying to be smart,

Well when we are under 18 we refer to ourselves as a woman because of our period. Our period starts us off into woman hood and it makes us feel more/less confident about ourselves, depending how each one of us is.
