Hello

If you are referring to the small arrow that Windows places on the shortcut by default, then you can remove it using a small free customizing program from Microsoft called "Tweak UI"(I think it's only for Windows XP). Get it here http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
After installing it, run it and goto Explorer->Shortcut on the "Tweak UI" program window (This path may vay depending on the version of "Tweak UI" that you are using). You can select the customization from the right pane.

Hope this helps :)

Why do you want to remove it? MS puts it there so we can readily differentiate a shortcut from a program or file.
