I disagree about getting a small dog. It was your responsibility to find a home that accepted your other dog. What happens if the next place allows NO pets? Will the small dog be dumped as well? Dont get another animal until you are more stable and can promise a lifelong home to your furbaby.
As far as crying, cry until you feel better. Time will lessen how the pain affects you, but you will probably always have some remorse and pain over this. Volunteer at a shelter to give something back. This may help you. Good luck to you.

Okay everyone! Seriously, you are not reading what her question is here. She did not dump her dog because it was too fat, or she didn't want it anymore. Sometimes in life you have to make hard choices. She had no choice but to give up her pet (it must have been a larger dog) to move into a new house.
Her love of dogs (and probably because her heart was broken) made her get the smaller dog. Obviously, the ones who are responding so negatively to this girl are people who have never experienced the love of a pet.
That is why our world is so full of hate. No one really takes the time to listen or read what people are trying to say.

Karen, I would of never moved into the home if I couldn't keep my dog. My dog sleeps with me on my bed and I wouldn't be able to stand giving her up. I can sympathize with you. Just pray that she got a good home with children who will love her...Or place an ad in the newspaper. Put the dogs picture in the paper and state you just want to know if she is okay and for them to send you information from time to time. Put your phone number.I probably would do that..or I would tell the shelter I changed my mind and contact a lawyer to get the dog back....

No, you don't keep crying. People who adopt from the shelter, do so because the want to save the life of an unwanted pet. You have to trust that your dog went to a good home. If your dog was having problems adjusting or having emotional problems, you can bet they would contact your for advice. No news is good news. Your dog is fine. Besides, I don't think that your landlord can discriminate against the size of your pet.

It sounds like you really cared about your pet. Give yourself some time to get over the loss of your friend and then consider if it's a good idea to find a new pet. A lot of small dogs (and cats) in shelters could use a good home.

That was your choice to move to a house that only allowed small dogs. Should have prepared for that before you got the dog in the first place.

Ok that helps...I am very sorry that you are missing your dog so much but it seems the best thing right now would be to adopt a small dog since you can have one of those...I think that would be the best way to help your heart heal...

I guess you weren't so broken up that you could not buy a $350 "teacup" Chihuahua.
