The second Sunday of November is Remembrance Sunday. At 11am a two minute silence is observed at war memorials, cenotaphs, religious services and shopping centres throughout the country. The Royal Family, along with leading politicians and religious leaders gather at The Cenotaph in Whitehall, London for a service and all branches of the civilian and military services are represented in ceremonies throughout Britain and the Commonwealth.

Thank you for mentioning the service - it is a pity that more people do not acknowledge it - and pay due respect for lives lost in wartime.

On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month we observe a 2 minute silence.

Sorry to see that everyone here is so ignorant - ARMISTICE day is indeed on the 11th of November, the day when the WWI armistice was signed. Remembrance Sunday, on the other hand, is always the Sunday closest to Armistice day. This year, that happens to be the 12th, as you correctly pointed out!
Perhaps some of the confusion arises from the fact that Armistice Day appears to have been renamed Remembrance Day in some areas.

So, to answer your question, I didn't know the service was being held then, but I could have guessed as much!

I stay in Calgary, and something that quite bothers me about this time of year is that some human beings in basic terms keep in mind our fallen heroes once a year. it really is likewise glaring to me that some human beings do not keep in mind in any respect. we've had a rash of poppy fund thefts the following this year and intensely last. A remark contained in the editorial pages the different day quite afflicted me. It confirmed the completed lack of understanding of the guy who wrote it and the problem-loose beleifs of maximum persons lately. The remark became " what's the large deal and why all the priority about those thefts? that is in basic terms some money." i can't understand someone who might want to imagine like that. those men fought wars for us and many died for us. We in basic terms formally keep in mind their sacrifices once a year, and some "human beings" do not get it. contained in the Netherlands, there are cities the position the sacrifice made by technique of Canadian squaddies in WWII are remembered daily. they are very grateful for what our boys did, and each and each and every college baby is conventional with all about the warfare and how the Canadians got here and liberated them from the Germans. If in basic terms a million% of Canadian college young children knew as a lot.
