I am redoing my bedroom pretty soon, new carpeting, new wall colors, new furniture and what-not, etc. I don't know the colors I want though. At first I was thinking along the lines of a dark green (emerald) carpet color with some kind of dark colored wall. Then I was thinking more and I think I want to have a room that has a deep red kind of... Red Wine type color. I don't know what color would work with the red though or where I want to incorporate the red (in the walls? the floor? the furniture?).

For a color to go along with it, I usually want something a little darker. Nothing really light as I find that I can relax better in darker rooms. There's just something about light colored rooms that don't 'click' with me.

If anyone has any ideas, that would be great. If you have any alternate ideas aside from the Red Wine type color, feel free to add those too.

Thanks in advance for anyone's input.

I appreciate it.

You sound like a hard edged person that thrives on chaos but likes comfort. Are you a Taurus? How about a brazillian cherry hardwood floor with a dark colored complimentary area rug under the bed, your dark wine colored paint, and a chair rail with 3 feet of wall paper for a splash of color to seperate the floor from the walls. That would allow you to showcase all of your tastes.

How about black with some white accents. That is always a striking combination. If you are a 'pink person', a dark pink would also look nice. Also red carpeting, much lighter red walls and light oak, pecan or maple furniture. I personally think white furniture would be a good contrast if light furniture is acceptable to you. In any event you will need some white or off white accents or the room could feel like a dungeon.

I understand your dislike of white walls. In my bedroom, I have textured walls, wine red over olive green (?!). You can't see the green at all, but it keeps it from looking pink. The texturing is brushed stain. Then I have teak furniture, off white roman shades with valances in a brown with palm frond design. (I think the light shades keep it from becoming TOO dark.) The remainder of the room is kind of a tropical/palm tree design, with wood floors and area rugs. Nice fairly large palm print over the bed, with a bamboo type frame. VERY relaxing. Exotic without being too kinky, if you know what I mean.

You could do deep burgundy carpet with accent rugs, dark stained wood, and maybe deep chocolate walls (if you would like to stick with dark) or cream coloured walls (if you would like lighter colours). If you have little sunlight I'd recommend light coloured walls and dark carpet, but if you have a lot of light you can stick with darker colours over all. It depends on your personal style...if you like modern, classic or antique.

I was thinking a slate color, not plain gray, but gray with tones of mauve and dark bluish/purple. I am maybe not describing it well, but it would be a combination like a beautiful burgundy car with rich gray leather upholstery. I can see it in my mind's eye, but don't know if I am expressing it.

I had also been thinking of sand like in sand dunes, but you said you don't like light tones. But I think that buff tones look so warm and inviting with deep red.

It sounds really gorgeous. Sleep well in your new room.

I think red is a nice color for a bedroom. Also visit websites that will allow you to color a room to get ideas www.behr.com is a good one. Here's a few pics for ideas. Hope it helps.

dark, blood red/ maroon goes well with gold, and it also goes well with certain shades of brown. If you go to your local hardware/paint store, they could help you find a good combination
