Not all the time. Sometimes a player will just struggle with a certain rotation, and it helps to put someone else in just to change something up. Anyone who's played volleyball has had one of those rotations where nothing went right.
Also, coaches will utilize player's strengths when determining when to play certain players. For instance, I was a "back row specialist." I was a good passer and server, but not tall enough to be a threat at the net, so I played three rotations in the back row, and I was subbed for a taller hitter for the front-row rotations. So basically, not all substitutions mean the player being replaced is bad.

sometimes coaches substitute players to slow down the game a bit. Instead of taking a timeout a coach will substitute the player in the spot where the ball is mainly going.
I hope this helps!

My coach always says "You can't be taken out of the game for playing badly. However, you can be taken out because someone else is playing well." So it probably means that your strong suit isnt in the spot where your coach is taking you out. Dont worry about it and keep working hard in practice and maybe you'll get that spot back. Be that person's biggest fan. Watch them, learn from them, and teach them. You'll be a great team.

Not always. I play volleyball, and sometimes when my coach switched us out it was because she needed to let someone else play and/or because we were upset.
