Can anyone tell me the German words for products sold at optician's? Please include the article (der, das, die).

Words like die Brille, die Sonnenbrille, die Kontaktlinsen. I need twenty. All valid, all related to der Optiker. Links to German sites that tell some of these would be awesome too.

The first person's answers are correct. Stay away from translation engines like Babelfish though, they frequently produce gibberish, or simply the incorrect meaning.

The most reliable translation engine is by far Leo:

We recommend that to all of our students. Then simply think of what you'd want to say in English, and find the right translation. It's usually a good idea to check the word the other way around too, from german back to english, so see if it seems right.

Try a translation website such as babelfish where you type in the words, then the language you want it translated from to the language you want. I've used that many times. I know a little German also. sonnen is sun, Kontacktlinsen is contact lenses Optiker is obviously Optician. Der and Die are both 'the'. There are alot of words in German that quite literally translate to the same thing! Another thing to remember is that alot of German words do not translate to a word that would literally BE the word that you are looking for. I saw 'Walk the Line' at the Cineworld in Berlin (the English version) and the theater was full of Germans because the movie did not translate well to German, and It made no sense to them in their native language. Go figure!
