My B1/B2 visa expires in April 2007. Can I enter the country say in late March 2007, get granted six months (presumably) stay on newly issued I-94 card and consequently be in the country till say September 2007? In effect, I would be in the country while my passport visa expired, but my I-94 permits me to stay. Is this possible and common?

The date on your visa pertains to the date up to which you can apply for entry. The actual length of your stay will be determined by the Homeland Security / Immigration officer at the port of entry. So to answer your queation, yes you should be ok, however it may be safer to get another visa closer to your date of departure. Remember though that a visa does not guarantee entry, it only allows you to apply for entry. It is still the sole perogative of the US authorities whether or not to grant a foreign citizen entry into the USA.

Generally your passport will have to stay valid for the length of your stay in the US, citizens of certain countries will need passports to remain valid three or even six months beyond your date of intended departure.

As with your other question, yes, it is possible and yes, it is very common. A visa is only for entry; you can enter on the last day that it is valid and stay as long as CBP says you can.

i might wager that using fact they did no longer cancel the B2 visa once you acquire the F1, then the B2 continues to be valid. Do examine up formally. you do no longer decide to be barred get entry to on the appearance airport. that would make it very complicated to get a visa in destiny. using fact your get entry to is processed electronically once you arrive, the admission will partly be controlled by capacity of the laptop. So do no longer think of you are able to 'injury out with it'.
