In spanish try not to ask if a person is there? it sounds like you are investigating, Abuelas are very protective of their grandsons, it is better to say. May I talk to Mauricio? Please?
Puedo hablar con Mauricio?
puuedo ablar kon Mauricio? Remember H is Silent like in Hola! (ola)
Don't forget to say Por favor? (Please) Grandmoms are Spanish men favorite people in their lives, specially if they raised them. while Mom worked. I have two sons 22 and 20. And girls got to be approved by Abuela, they don't care much what I say on that. Ha Ha! but grandmom has to ok them.

I don't speak Spanish but I have had to make calls in the same situation as you are in. I usually say, "Es Mauricio en la casa?" Which is close to meaning, "is Mauricio home?"

I suggest you only use my suggestion if no one else responds. But it does work.

I might like for the surgeon/industry and so on to invite me to press two for Spanish, as an alternative of press one million for English. All messages will have to be in English and press a few quantity for some other language. I do detect that English isn't the legit language of the US, however as of now, it's the essential one.

Podría hablar con Mauricio por favor... Está en casa?
or
Por favor, puedo hablar con Mauricio
or
Hola, está Mauricio? Puedo hablar con él?

Any one of these three forms is correct.
If you speak some spanish, say something nice to the abuela...that might help...like "Hola señora, como está", puedo hablar con su nieto Mauricio?
Or... soy amiga de Mauricio, me gustaría poder hablar con él...

There are different ways of saying that, and it depends on the country of origin your friend is from.

The most common way is: "¿Se encuentra Mauricio?". More politelly, you could also say: "Hola, ¿Podría hablar con Mauricio? Es de parte de ---- (your name)---- " (Hi, may I speak to Mauricio?).

Probably you'll receive answers like: "Un momento" (Wait a moment, please); "Si, un momento", "Si, un momentico", (Yes, one second, please)...

Hope it could be helpful! ;)

esta mauricio por favor, so you are polite to the grandma.
if she says something else, maybe she could be asking whos calling, the parte de quien, you say de parte de and your name, this is saying who you are.

now, because i dont know where they're from, maybe tehy dont say de parte de quien they might say quien llama, which is a little rude but i heard that before.
