I'm not sure what you mean by "common household items," so I'll give a couple of suggestions.
If you have a potato or two, leave the peel on, but slice it thinly. Lightly grease a cookie sheet or baking pan with oil, then place the slices in a single layer. Turn the slices over so that both sides have a light coat of oil, sprinkle with a little onion and/or garlic salt or some Mrs. Dash seasoning. Bake the slices at 350 degrees until brown and crispy. . .delicious!
You can do the same thing for a sweet potato if you have it, but do peel it first. Use some cinnamon and sugar for the seasoning instead of the garlic and onion.
If you have an English muffin and cheese, shred the cheese, add a little mayo to bind it and a bit of minced green or red pepper if available. Spread it on the English muffin and broil until bubbly. You can add bacon bits and a little chopped drained tomato to the cheese in place of the pepper, too.

Make your own snack mix. Substitute anything you like. I add chocolate sometimes, like M&Ms or raisins.
40 min 10 min prep
2 cups Cheerios toasted oat cereal
2 cups Chex cereal (any variety)
2 cups pretzels
1 cup peanuts (or any variety of nuts)
1/4 cup butter, melted
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon salt (I use more cause I like saltiness!)
Heat oven to 275 degrees.
Mix cereals, pretzels, and peanuts in a large ungreased rectangular pan.
Stir together butter, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, garlic salt, and salt.
Pour over cereal mixture, stirring until evenly coated.
Bake thirty minutes, stirring occassionally.
Cool and then add raisins, if using.
Store in an airtight container up to 1 week.

On multi-meal bread slice put lots a honey, cover with trail mix, slap the seond slice on it and eat.
You can create lots of variations on this. Add a slice of non-beef balona and a lettuce leaf.
Think up your own versions.

Saute bananas in butter, honey, vanilla and cinnamon. Put it over ice cream if you have it or french toast. You can also add a nut flavored liqueur like Amaretto or Frangelico if you have those in your cupboard.

Well, last night I made a snack that my little sister just loved, and she's extremely picky, so I guess it must be good. All I did was cut a banana into peices about an inch and a half long, took a spoon and put a spoonful of whipped cream on top, then put a large drop of chocolate syrup on the top of that. My family loved them.
