Look closely at your finger, you will see lots of little lines. Those lines form a unique fingerprint for you. When you touch something oils from your skin leaves a "print" of your finger which can be collected and matched to you.

Hold out your hand. Palm up. Raise your hand to eye level. Look at the surface of one of the ends of your finger. See the little whorls and ridges. That is the mark your finger leaves upon touching the surface of another item. The mark is a fingerprint.
