Most adult mormons wear them. Some keep them on for sex, I think most take them off. They also don't wear them when they shower (big surprise?), swim, or participate in physical excercise.
The symbols on them are secret so you won't get any descriptions from people who believe in the religion. The first time I saw the symbols, I thought it was a tear that had been sewed up.
