I recieved an E-mail about it after signing up for baby zone after I found out I was pregnant. I started reading it and it said my baby's cord blood could cure my osteoporosis. Does anyone know anything about this or done it. They say there is enough stem cell in one umbilical cord to help many people. It is very expensive and just want to know what others think. I think it's worth the money. (even if it can't help me) If I can't afford it I will at least donate it.

I'm am not killing a helpless child to get the stem cells!!!!
I am giving life to a beautiful healthy baby, my gift from God!! I just want to use the umbilical cord blood, which is going in the trash. I am a christian I know the rules I would never hurt an unborn child to get them!! I THINK IT IS ANOTHER GIFT FROM GOD JUST LIKE MY CHILD IS!!

My husband's sister died a week before he was born(age 5) with Hurler's syndrom and we both have a history of diabetic's in our family, both baby's G-ma's and 1Great G-ma. I could give my child my osteoporosis and osteoarthritis.

My best friend did that, her mother in law wanted her to do it in case the my friends husband needed it as he was having problems then, the mother in law ended up paying for it. Make sure you have all the papers signed and everything done, they decided late in pregnancy to do this and the kit came the day before she gave birth.

Cord blood stem cells are definitely not embryonic stem cells - people should know the difference. Even the Catholic church supports umbilical cord blood stem cells.

It IS expensive but many of the private banks have payment plans. We are considering signing up for one where we would only have to pay $41 a month. That's not bad at all.

Many of my friends have done it and say it's a very easy process and they do it because it just makes them feel better about the fact that it's saved should something happen. Since we can't predict into the future, we are considering it.

MY OB recommends it if your baby will be biracial or adopted or if there is a family history of cancer or illness in your family.

My SIL tried donating but found out they'd have to pay $300 for a collection fee!!!! Can you believe that? Then my MIL ended up paying the costs for them.
Good luck!

I looked at the list of diseases that cord blood can treat and I didn't see osteoporosis. But it could be that there is potential to one day cure osteoporosis. The full list of what cord blood can currently treat is linked below. The good thing about saving cord blood is that it could be used to treat a member of the family and not just your baby. If you have a family history of cancer or terminal illness, I'd consider banking it.

I'm thinking about doing it aswell (my mother offered to pay for it). It does seem like a pretty inovative/helpful thing. And pay no mind to the person who said it was "against the will of God" or whatever it was... Some people answer questions just because they can, not because they want to give advice, insight, or even a real answer.. they've got nothing better to do than shove their closed minded opinion where it isn't needed nor wanted. If you find the funds to do it, I say go for it. :)

those companies choose you to shop twine blood, no longer the relatively twine. No, I relatively have not achieved it. From each and every thing i've got study, banking twine blood has no longer been shown to be advantageous in any respect. some human beings (quite often the companies that value your cash to hold the twine blood) will say that sometime twine blood could be used to avert and treatment ailment on your toddler, yet there is not any genuine info.

DO IT. one can only imagine what that cord blood could do for your beautiful child in the future. One can never know, and besides, there can be lots more discoveries of cord blood in the future, and then you will be lucky to have it.

I think it's a good idea, I wish they had thought about it when both my kids were born, and they may have had it but it wasn't offered. I could expound on my thoughts on stem cell stuff but I'd end up pissing off people I'm sure so I'll keep it to my self.

They're just trying to get you to give them $40/mo for the rest of your life, and if you're a christian then you should know that your religion believes cord blood baking to be against the will of god.
