I am about to travel in Amtrak for days together in next few months.

Should be a outlet at almost every seat on the train... And yes, they do produce there own power, but it is very safe! don't worry about power surges, they have surge protectors to regulate power.

I wouldn't plug anything into a receptacle on AMTRAK. Remember, they generate their own power, and sometimes things go awry.

No surge protection means possible lost $$$$.

It's a train, not a power house or grid.
