My Zagat 2007 arrived yesterday....the top 5 favorites are
1. Grammercy Tavern
2. Union Square Cafe
3. Le Bernardin
4. Babbo
5. Peter Luger
5 "hippest" I think is a matter of opinion. There is a list of 'Trendy restaurants' which is almost 100 restaurants long & alphabeticalized not rated 1 - whatever. Grammercy Tavern is listed under Trendy. Bobby Flay's Bar Americain is listed as well. Daniel Boulud's Bistro Moderne is listed & his food is ethereal.
maybe be bop over to www.zagat.com & have a look-see. www.citysearch.com is good, too.

1. One If By Land, Two If By Sea
2. Patsy's
3. Joe Allen's
4. Daniel
5. P.J. Clak's
Sorry if this offends, but those restaurants are probably the complete opposite of "hippest"!!! They are more like NYC Classics that your parents would want to hang out at!
Hippest:
Del Posto
Spice Market
Megu
Babbo
Spotted Pig
And by hippest, I mean place that are very hard to get into, places where all the young and hip celebrities hang out, and places with the well-know young and trendy chefs.

Okay, I'm not a New Yorker, but I just had to put my 2 cents in - I'm guessing "Hell's Kitchen" is one of the 5?

Along with stone, mud and animal parts, wood was one of the first materials worked by early humans. Microwear analysis of the Mousterian stone tools used by the Neanderthals show that many were used to work wood. The development of civilization was closely tied to the development of increasingly greater degrees of skill in working these materials.

Hippest???? Great restaurants are rated on quality of food, service, and (lastly) decor. Hip-ness has nothing to do w/ it!!! You cannot pay to become "someone" important!!!
Please, get a life, Paris!!!!
