Doesn't sound like your best friend is such a friend. You can't help what she thinks or does. The fact of the matter is that she did not go out with your ex. Besides, your ex-boyfriend is your "ex."
By the way how does someone "almost" ask someone out. You guys sound like you're school or college age. You will find someone else to focus your attention on. These two are not worth, it will take time but just forget about him and have fun with your "real" friends.
Life can be a bit challenging and relationships and love are the most difficult part of it. We all have been through this dozens of time. It's just that when you're older you have to learn to leave a situation with hurt feels before you get your heart broken. You'll be fine, promise.

I think there are two things worth considering here.
Firstly, if your best friend would start dating your ex then she's not much of a friend.
Secondly, she may have said that only to let him down lightly. It may be that really her loyalty to you would stop her or maybe she just wouldn't want to anyway. Did she tell you this herself or did you hear it from someone else? If she did tell you she may have been seeing if you were okay with it.

How much do u value her friendship? I would stay out of it no matter how painful. If he cared for u he wouldn't ask her out. Be mature. Mr Right is out there somewhere & u won't find him while u waiting for an ex to wander back into ur life.
