i am currently bottlefeeding 2 pit pups that are almost 3 days old and it seems like i feed them and put them down it don't take long for them to wake back up and want to eat again, oh and this is after i feed each of them for about 30-45 minutes straight. to me that seems a little long, when i look at the bottle they eat probably about 1 tablespoon each, so how can i make it to where they eat a little faster so they won't be hungry so often?

before anyone asks about the mother -she is feeding 6 of her pups and i am feeding 2 because she caused them to have some really bad wounds. i think it may have been an accident but they have stitches now and the vet said not to put them back with their mother because she may try to take the stitches out or if she attacked them then she may try to attack again.

and i do know that they have to eat every 2-3 hours and that wouldnt' be a problem if i didn't have to spend almost an hour feeding them and them waking back up in an hour wanting to eat again so im not even getting the 2 hours of rest from it

ASk the vet to show you how to tube feed the puppies. It is faster and easier.
Also ask if you can let them with the mother while you supervise the feedings, then take them back out.

Ok..first off you need to open that nipple up more on the bottle, if its taking you that long for that little the holes too small and there not getting any milk. I had to do the same thing just few months ago and I had the same problem at first. You will know there full when there lil bellys bulge. But they still will need to eat every 2-3 hours at first..maybe till there like 2 weeks old then the time gets longer as they eat more at a time.

1st make sure there is no air in the bottles. 2ndly new born pups r like newborn babys, they have to eat every 3 to 4 hours. if they r not eating enough they will have to eat more often. u can't make them eat faster, that would only give them gas which is gonna give them colic in the log run. u could try switching the pups and watching very carefully to make sure mom won't try to hurt them and then u can switch feedings every so often if mom will accept them. otherwise u r stuck with feeding them on demand until they can feed themselves . good luck

Maybe you need to get a little bit bigger bottle. I do not know how big the one you are using is but it seems like they are not getting enough milk in one sitting.
Good luck with your little pitties and I really hope that the mom does not hurt them again!

Why not call your breeder mentor and see what she can offer you for help. Or, if the dog was rescued while pregnant, call the rescue group and see if they can walk you through it. Chances are they've seen and dealt with it before. Please have her spayed as soon as the vet says it's safe and good luck to you and your new lives. : )

****DON'T**** "bottle-feed"!!!!!

TUBE THEM!!!

MEASURE -in CC's- & you'll know EACTLY what they took every time *&* it only take SECONDS!!!
WEIGH DAILY!!! A decent electronic scale runs only about $75 & is a LIFE-SAVER!!!
*I* wouldn't feed em AT ALL (hand-raised pups ALWAYS do poorly & OFTEN DIE!)but would put em BACK w/the BITC-H!!!

PS:you sure can tell who actually****KNOWS**** anything, can't you???
"Torbay" & I....TWO great minds...etc."!!LMAO!!!
