I am 5'6" and 210 pounds. I have tried a variety of diets. The only one that worked at all was Atkins, but I only lost about 10 pounds then stopped losing (I am sure this was all water weight as well) I drink a lot of water. I don't eat anything with sugar. I don't eat junk food (candy, chips etc) I have never been a huge junk food eater. I would eat it ocasionally (ie maybe once a week) but I have completely cut it out and not missed it at all. I dont eat anything with artificial sweetners. I walk about an hour a night, 6 days a week. About 3 years ago I had my thyroid tested and the doctor said it was fine. I hate going to the doctor and haven't been since then because he always just says I am eating too much and being lazy, which is completely untrue. I am so frustrated. Any suggestions?

First off, missing in you quetion are a couple of crucial points. When you eat is crucial. I know most adult in country skip breakfast. We have also proved to be a very dedonistic society. Theirfore if breakfast was the meal we loked foreward to above the other two, we wold b 4 going a little sleep, arrive 2 work late rather then miss breakfast. BUT YOUR BODY does not kmow to start burning fuel (fat) untill it erceives regular timed interval of food.
To start burning calories the minute (within 1/2 hour) of gettingout of bed I must stress this as' URGENT" I myself eat more like, choke down half a slice of toast. That is enough to let the body know, that their is no need to go into "famine Mode" This hapens wich is just a natual defense respone of the body.
It is very basic, in not so pld times people often went through famines, crop failure etc. So in times of famine whenpeole often went hungry. The metabolism slows way down and storing every potenial calorie not nedded for survival into energy reserves known as FAT. I always despair to fesr some one say something like I skipped lunch all week to lose weight. It is vicios losing cycle. By all means cut the calories and make healthier chioces.
As our society moves more and more from physical, work and play. Exercize is a must. not only forweight loss but heart disease, diadetics, the list is to long to mention.. You can go to a library and find shelves devoted to subject.
Permanent weight loss means a permenant chnage of Lifestyle. Nothing drastic or radical. Ill list basic points;
a) eat three meals a day. YES BREAKFAST FIRST PRIORIYT! it only need be an apple, just gotta start the motor. (calorie burner)
b) Try to eat at the same time every day. You do not want signals firing off to brain "ALERT!! PREPARE FOR FAMINE!! SLOE DOWN METABOLISM! and stop burnig fat, and staet string it until crissis over.
c) Exercise you have to it is easy, start slow. Walking is still the number # exercise excisting today. Yet think of all the people who wil drive X miles to get to exspensive gym, Ibet a walk every to gym and back again, without entering gym will have better pay off. Although, weight training 2 to 4 times a week is also nessasary.LADIES fat and muscle are two entirely diifferrnet entities. Fat cannot turn into muscle or vise versa. Building lettle muscle will give shape and definetion along with strenge and a new self confide, freinds will want the name of your doctor(assuming he has acsess to magic" Happy pill"and lastly
d) drink lots and lots of water,it flushes your system and keeps skin hydrated and heathy. The last ou me make excuses for at fisrt, but before kow it you'll love it and new found energy and self esteem. Keep your food as close to nature as possable. I"m not just talking about vegetarians. Humans have aways been meat eaters I meam try to avoid prepackaged foods with labels that start off May Contain.....MARY

when i was 16 i was 185 so i wasn't too far from you and i felt like absolutly nothing worked. i drank only water and only organic food ... the problem was the portions i would eat, it was way too much. i joined weight watchers and i was embarressed to go at first but you know everyone there has been in your situation. even the leaders are ppl who were once part of weight watchers. they use a "point system" now and my sister lost 5 ibs the first week!! that may not seem like a lot but go to a butcher and ask for a pound of fat. you will realize that you're actually on your way. and also you may walk but is it fast paced? do cardio/ jog/ swim/ jump rope. always have a bottle of water with you and drink before you eat because you feel so much fuller. i wish you the best of luck. i know you can do it because i used to be in your place. it took me a year and a half but you know what i was down to 113 and i really think weight watchers and cardio will help you. you meet with your leader and keep a food journal and she'll tell you exactly what you are doing wrong and what your doing great! what i had to realize was it didn't come on over night and takes some time to get off. that might not be encouraging but if you stick with it and hang in there you can do it. after you lose the weight you still go every now and then and they really do teach you how to maintain the weight. i was not far from where you are and i can tell you it is sooo fustrating but you can do it! Good~Luck!

I will try to keep it simple. Your metabolism is basically the rate at which your body burns calories to create energy. So the faster your metabolism, the faster you burn calories and the easier it is to lose unwanted weight. To boost your metabolism naturally you just need to eat the right foods.

You can sit down and literally eat a 1,000-calorie dinner and yet be absolutely starving just a few hours later and the reason is simple: Because your body didnt get what it needed in those 1,000 calories so it sends signals to your brain telling you to ingest more calories and thus, the late-night cravings. That means that the surest way to end those late-night cravings and keep your weight loss goals on track is to eat a more balanced, nutritious diet that actually gives your body what it needs.

It's VERY EASY to lose weight if you eat the right foods. Check out Dr. Charles Livingston's video here: http://www.sexyjese.com - it will blow your mind.

Maybe you have to be honest about what you are eating. Keep a food journal and look where you are going wrong. Be consistent and don't jump from diet to diet. Atkins isn't life long and is extremely hard to maintaine. Calories count! so keep below 1500 a day

If you are serious about losing weight, the calories
in the food you eat should be less than the
energy you use. You will have to increase your
metabolic rate now, and plan your diet carefully.
Formulate your own weight loss plan and you will
lose weight faster. More details available at
