Alcohol stimulates the appetite - hence the origin of the aperitif. So a little alcohol before eating is a good thing. However, if your intent is to drink more than this, it is best to do so during or after a meal, since drinking (even moderately) on an empty stomach will bring on an unwelcome degree of intoxication.

Eat before drinking. The food helps absorb the alcohol

I think it is best to eat an hour or 2 before drinking, that way after you drink and than try and eat you won't get sick

It depends on your mission.
If you want to get really, really drunk and then most likely barf later, then drink first.
If you want to just be mellow and drink a little for fun, then eat first so that the alcohol metabolizes easier.

If you're planning on drinking quite a bit, I'd eat something greasy beforehand to coat your stomach.

It depends on what you are looking for.. are you looking to get drunk? or are you looking to satisfy your hunger?? I like my brew.. but.. if I eat I can not drink.. so I have to weigh things by what I want most.. do I wanna eat?? or do I wanna have a few cocktails...
