I haven't ran into this before. And apparently, they already took $400. What should I do? Any specific questions I should focus on?

Typically your bank will only hold you responsible for a small amount, say $50 but check with them. Perhaps they will not charge you anything because you acted so quickly. Don't worry though, it is not the end of the world. Just take deep breaths and hang in there and it will all work out in the end.

Contact your issuing bank immediately and tell them to shut the card down. Do this via your banks customer service number. NOT at your branch, they can't help you. If your bank card is a debit card and they did not have your PIN number it is treated as if it where a credit card. You can file a disputed charge claim and your bank will hold payment until it investigates the fraudulant charges and credits your account. Ask for copies of all sales reciepts WITH signatures from the merchants that your card was used at. If they can't produce them let them know that the charges are in dispute and that they have violateded their card agreements and you will seek damages. If the card was used to make purchases off of the internet have your bank put the charges pending and find out from the bank the billing accounts name. Try to make contact directly with the billing entity and have them stop shippment if possible and also tell them that you are disputing the billing. All of this will take some time and effort but you MUST do it if you hope to come out of this alive, credit wise I mean. Good Luck and do the leg work.

Obviously cancel any other cards stolen, but worthwhile to call credit bureaus:

In the United States, contact these three credit bureaus:

• Equifax (800) 525-6285

• Experian (888) 397-3742

• TransUnion (800) 680-7289

You got off easy trust me,the other answer you got is right,go to your branch, and ask for a printout of the last 20 or so transactions, ask what the limit is on the reimbusements of money that wasnt spent by you,When this happened to me it was any transaction under $20.00 bucks so the culprit got away with @ $70.00 out of $700.00.you will have to get the printout of your account, identifiy the transactions you didnt make out of it,your bank or financial institution should give you a form that you'll have to sign and get notarized and after that youve done your part.they should return whatever monies is over their cap per transactions but any monies under their rulle is gone/forfieted,they should return any monies over the limit...good luck this sucks immensly I know, been there done that

You should report it to the police if you have not already done so. This may help in recovering any lost monies. I would also montior my account to make sure no additonal outstanding items post to the account; if so, file a claim on those too (with your bank).
