So I was pulled over today by a police officer, he said he checked my plates and they went back to my last car that I traded in towards this new car. So basically my plates didn't match the car I was driving, but the registration is under my name and I own both cars, so it's not like a stolen plate/car. I'm not hurting anyone, except for myself. He didn't give me a citation on the spot. He said he was going to mail it, and he wouldn't tell me how much of a ticket I'd be getting. Anyone know? It's not like a drunk driving ticket or something extreme, so I hope it doesn't hurt my wallet. If it helps I'm in the state of Pennsylvania. (I know these things differ in different parts of the country)

Doesn't matter if you were hurting anyone or not, you still broke the law. If you kept your plate from your old car and put it on your new car, then it was your responsibility to update with the MVD ASAP!! When he mails you the ticket, he will mail a bond card along with it, outlining your options (driving school if eligable, court, or payment options), and how much the violation will be. You'll just have to wait, because this varies from agency to agenct, and jurisdiction to jurisdiction.

Actually it is a considered fairly serious in most states, Since you are driving without current tag and also using a false plate

I would put it at about 200 to 300 total. Sometimes if you go ahead and get the correct plates, and show it in court, they dismiss the charges or reduce it also

It's obvious the person above me is a cop. You're right in the sense you weren't hurting anyone but yourself, "OH BUT YOU STILL BROKE THE LAW" screw that philosophy, sometimes cops just target you because they're told to pull people over. The fact that he pulled you over just on a plate check up is proof of this.

perhpas they will just make you pay fix it fee. I was pulled over for having expired tags showing in which i didnt realize i hadnt put thenew sticker on till i pulled the registration out. The the _Ucker.... wrote me up for it when he held the sticker in his hand. I had to pay 10.00 for that plus go to the CHP office to have it signed off by an officer.

It should be on the back of the ticket. You can also call the courthouse where the bill needs paid and ask them.

Maybe he just wants to worry you for a few months and really won't send you a ticket at all.
