It depends on what the person is ignorant about. For example, being ignorant of a law is no excuse for breaking that law. The person would be arrested anyway. To remain ignorant is not smart thing to do, but it is not a crime in and of itself.

Freedoms in the US allow for anyone to be ignorant, or remain ignorant. I'm of the firm belief however, that stupidity should be punishable with pain.

To remain ignorant. If you willfully disregard all the information you have at your disposal, and choose not to inform yourself and make informed judgements and opinions, that's a crime. Would you buy a car after only looking at it sitting in someone's yard?

it is a crime to willfuly choose ignorance. it is not a crime to be ignorant, but be aware, it shall make you an easy target for somone elses willfull seductions in sin.
