Tell her to visit her doctor. They can do blood work to see what the problem is, and find a solution from there.

a visit to the Dermotologist? would probably be good. If thats not possible, I've read online that tea tree oil shampoos and conditioners could work for growing hair. Also I've read Nizoral, another dandruff/scalp shampoo grows back hair, although the nizoral company doesnt advertise that it does. She can look up some articles online by googling these shampoos

First off....go to your regular doctor...he or she will do a blood test to see if you are lacking in anything like a healthy thyroid level etc.
Is she on a diet??? does she get enough protein???
itchy scalp??
any big change in her life...good or bad???
loosing hair is normal...but loosing too much isn't
see your doctor ASAP

I agree, see a doctor for a diagnosis. It sounds like Alopecia, which can be treated - I don't think there's a cure for it. It's a common disease, though - nothing to worry about (except losing all your hair).

If she is getting proper nutrition and enough water, she should go visit her doctor and get some blood work done- especially that which relates to her thyroid.
Good luck!

If her skin is very dry and flaky and eyes rather large she should go to a
doctor and get her thyroid checked out.
