Is this similar to the witness on the stand in court and the lawyer guiding the witness in the way he wants him to go?

Witness does not have to be spoken. For example, Abel, a character in the Bible who doesn't even have a speaking part, is listed among the prophets whose blood was shed in witnessing to God's truth. The courageous demeanour of the early Christians when thrown to the lions was a cogent act of witness and indeed the word "martyr" comes from the Greek word for "witness".

Soul-winning, on the contrary, normally requires words. It is a spiritual gift: And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ." (Ephesians 4 11-12). People with this gift are not themselves doing the soul winning. They are simply instruments of the Holy Spirit and using their gift in His service.

A witness on a stand in court is required to speak the truth and so is the Christian. But there the analogy ends. The witness in court simply answers questions to the best of his ability. The Christian is allowed to volunteer information, although in witnessing and evangelising he should not act in his own strength, but be guided by the Spirit if he is going to carry out these tasks effectively.

witnessing is part of soul winning, like noun is part of a sentence or like foot is part of the body. when someone wittness to an unsaved person he is sowing a seed, then maybe someone else will invite him to church or a group where a minister may pray with him for his salvation. all the parts make up soul winning.

{he may even go home and say the sinners prayer himself and be saved}

Witnessing and Soul winning is the same thing. I think Soul winning is more demanding tho.

I think witnessing is a testament, so to speak.. what you say and what you are doing should reflect your faith and your beliefs. If while you are witnessing, whether you do it verbally or by your actions, you win a soul over to God, that's great!

In order to be overcomers we need the Baptism of the Holy Ghost. Jesus himself baptizes with the Holy Spirit. He told us about this baptizm. We get this anointing before we receive the gifts. We need the gifts of the spirit in order to overcome and in order to witness effectively and to serve the Lord in the fullness of the Spirit. You would understand more about if you received it so just pray for it and seek the Lord with your whole heart and be diligent to abide in Christ. Once you receive it you have it.
