I am 44 years old and have acne for the first itme ever. But it is on my bottom. I have had it for about 8 months. My doctor has given me anti-biotic gel to use. But it is not working. I have been dating a guy for about 3 months and he wants to take our relationship to the next level (Making Love). But I keep putting him off because of this. Plus some times it actually hurts, especially when the pimples get big, just setting hurts. My doctor is not taking it very serious. But I am embarrassed. And some times in pain. I don't have it any where else. I eat healthy, and work out at the gym. Can someone give me some advise please?

It is not un-common for people of all ages to get acne in all areas of the body. I have seen several patients with it on their arms, legs, back and yes bottom. There could be several reasons for it. But the best treatment I have seen is to wash the effected area with a mild anti-bactrial soap, or something like clean and clear acne wash. That is what I use to keep my face clear. Dry well, apply the anti-biotic gel to the affected area as directed on label. Then apply a thin layer of baby powder, shower to shower etc.. That contains corn starch. This should help. Also do not scrub the area with a wash cloth as this can break the pimples open and cause them to spread. Washing the area with your hand is fine. Do not wear tight under wear or bottoms. You probably sweat when you work out I do and I wear leggings they are tight. Most people do wear tight bottoms to the gym that I use. You should wear some type of bottom that is lose and will not hold in the mositure. Shower as soon as you finish your work out. Most gyms have showers for their members. Remember to take your anti-biotic gel and powder. This should all make a big difference. If you continue to have the problem see a dermatologist, as your regular MD is not likely to take it seriously.
As for being embarrassed to make love. Try wearing something that can cover your bottom but will not restrict you. You also may find out that this gentleman does not care about your problem. If you 2 are ready for making love then you are probably pretty close to each other.
But I really think you sould get a second opinion if your doctor is not taking care of this problem. I really would see a dermatologist.
It could be some thing more than acne.
Good Luck.

First, and foremost, if your doctor isn't taking you seriously...dump him!!!
You find a doctor that believes you and listens to every word you say like it's the gospel.
If I told my doctor I had blue polka dots and green stripes on my butt...he'd be on the phone looking for a specialist before I even got to his office to show him.
That's the way it should be.
Second, it may not be acne. Sometimes there are other problems that can appear to be acne. A good doctor will be able to sort this out for you. If the treatment isn't working they need to try something else. Just don't give up. You be persistant. You let the doctors know that you are not going to be brushed off and that you will not settle for anything short of a cure. You take care of yourself...don't wait for someone else to do it.

In the other situation...Is telling him you're not ready and don't want to rush out of the question?

If it is something that you truely want, then there are ways around it. Tell him you are shy and want to keep your panties on. He can work around them. You can also by very pretty (not trashy) crotchless panties. Try going on-line. He'll think that's incredibly sexy. If all else fails. Stick to the truth. Tell him you have a harmless, but embarrassing medical condition and that it concerns you. Unless he's a complete jerk...he'll understand and be willing to help you not be so worried about it. And never put any man's needs or desire's before your own health. If you are in pain tell him. He's a grown man he can deal with it. If he can't find you a real man.

I've never had acne is a delicate place but had it bad on my face for a few years. I find though that if I drink one can of soda or even eat a chocolate bar I'll break out the next day. I suggest cutting any soda, grease and chocolate out of your diet and replace it with alot of water. I found that drinking alot of water will help to clean up anything. It could be your undergarments too, maybe you are allergic to the fabric or something. Try something that "breathes" better. I don't know what else to say but I've tried the doctors concotions for acne before and didn't have any success with them, just keeping the area clean and dry should help.

Get a Second Opinion. Have you seen a dermatologist. Those are the skin specialist an Internal Medicine or Family Medicine is good but at this point you need a dermatologist some one better qualified to assist your problem. You could also go to www.webmd.com it is very useful.

Ask your doctor for some antibiotic pills and that should clear your acne.

I got acne when I was an adult. The dermatologist told me it is hormonal. I took antibiotic by mouth and I still use Retin-A on my face. I think you can use it on your bottom too.

Anyway go to a dermatologist because they are the best for skin problems.

I agree, my teens use proactive and it really works. My husband use to get acne on his behind right where his wallet was in his pocket. He would get a square patch of acne there so he don't carry a wallet and it went away. The sweat I think was causing it.
