we need to change that, but that is not as big of a problem as the mexican border situation is. If we did that there, there would be way more illegals
i rarely see cubans these days, mainly mexicans

It is the people's way of amending outdated govt.regulations which should not have been there in the first place and which have created bad blood and in any case which have lost relevance over time. It is the last remant of the Kennedy anti-Cuba policy of 1962 when USA could not and would not tolerate even a whiff of suspicion of any South American country breaking out of USA fold. However, many USA-backed rulers of these countries were tyrants and in any case were not doing anything to take their country forward. When the Batista regime was ovefrthrown in Cuba danger bells started ringing in USA. In point of fact the movement which overthrew him was not leftist but it welcomed help from Soviet Russia when USA threatened and the rest is history. Even if they were not Leftist they had the well-being of their (as also other South American people in their heart as represented by Che Guevira) and they have really put Cuba on the worlld map standing against USA even after the fall of the Soviet Russia. However, there are still some strands in the USA previous Cuba policy as revealed recently with the illness of the Man who stood resolutely against USA intervention.
But American people have become progressively disillusioned over this policy. However, loyal citizens as they are, they thwart attempts of illicit immigration across the seas if they intercept it but once it escapes their net and lands they just look the other way.It is the citizen's way of amending on ground a wrong and in any case obsolee government policy.

Merely landing on US soil does not in itself guarantee permanent residence, but it may allow Cubans to claim political asylum. The Cubans are victims of a totalitarian regime in the hands of a dictator and would therefore qualify as political refugees under US immigration law. I doubt very much if Mexicans have that priveledge ot for that matter citizens of countries that are governed by command economies.
A friend of mine who graduated with honours from an Ivy League University was told he had to wait for at least 5 years before his case could even be heard. Australia gave him a settlement visa within 6 months !

Very littel is REALLY fair in the USA. If you have $$$$$ or it meets the needs of the politicos, they will pass a law that is good for them. To hell with the rest of America.
One of the reasons I don't spend more time in Florida, is the low life folks that live there. Any one who would allow one particulare country of origin people benefit over all others is going to ge what Miami and Florida got. A crime infested, squalid, degraded neighborhood. It's almost not fit to live in. Most retail stores have to hire armed guards to protect their patrons from the criminal, many of whom are Cubans. They one's who are not Cubans are usually poor, blacks who can't compete with the Cubans for the low level jobs.
These folks are making babies like insects breed. Imagine what the future will hold for Miami and South Florida. This coastal region was a crown jewel in this country. Now it is a crime infested, overcrowded, drug dealer's paradise.
This and worse are what we as Americans have to look forward to if we do not stand up and scream enough!
I'm not sure I care enough to fight for what is right any more in this screwed up country.
As you point out/suggest and I acknowldege, things ARE NOT FAIR nor will they ever be so again in the US if we don't take back our country from the invaders and manipulators of our political system!

I would rather live over in Arizona with the Mexicans than in Florida with the Cubans any day. They are arrogant people who strive on hate and discontent. I can't even imagine why it is that they come here when they hate America so much.
You can't even get out of your car in Miami.
Hell the factory workers won't even come outside to unload the orange juice tankers. They make the drivers get out of the truck and put the hose through a hole in a brick wall and then they turn the pumps on. After they have everything going you can hear them scream through the wall that you need to get back in your truck and lock the doors. Great place to be!

So, get your county to put up shore barriers that prevent boats from landing...problem solved. If you see people coming in by boat that look like they're inbound from cuba, call the USCG to pick em up.
While you're at it, put a letter together to your city council, ask em their position on the shoreline being used as a port of entry for people from cuba...the better questions you can ask about something like this, the better an answer you'll get back...
Support the US Border Patrol!

No, it's not. Just more residual damage of the cold war. It's really BS, because people in Haiti are a lot worse off than those in Cuba. But we don't let the Haitians stay automatically.
And I live in Florida, so I disagree with almost everything another poster just said about it.

I also live in here in florida, and I don't believe the cubans should have what they call "wet feet dry feet" policy. It is not fair to others who are trying to come in this country...I say be "fair" to all regardless of where you are coming from.

Not at All especially since the US will do all they can to prevent someone from any other place (ex: Haiti) to come over. Even if a Haitian touches US soil,,,,they are going to send them back. Nothing in America is fair but I still love it here!!

WHY DOES IT BOTHER YOU IF THEY ARE HERE? LET THEM STAY. SOME PEOPLE ARE SO COLD HEARTED. YOU RATHER HAVE THOSE POOR PEOPLE SUFFERING IN THEIR COMMUNIST COUNTRY. PUT YOURSELF IN THEIR POSITION, IN THEIR SHOES. GOODNESS GRACIOUS, SOME PEOPLE ARE SO HARD HEADED. (AND NO, I AM NOT AN IMMIGRANT, I WAS BORN AND RAISED IN THE UNITED STATES) ALSO, CUBANS SPECIFICALLY ARE KNOWN TO BE ONE OF THE HARDEST WORKING IMMIGRANTS. STOP BEING SO UNGRATEFUL AND ENJOY THE DIVERSITY OF THIS COUNTRY
