in america used to call white (north?) americans. But how it became to slang from apron?

It comes from a word in provençal: GAVACH and means a person who speaks badly.
It is a name originally given to people native to certain villages in the Pyrenees.
During the napoleonic wars it was applied despectively to anyone french, and in this aceptation is still used today...
It is also the name for a variety of feather legged pigeons...
And a type of shawl or small cape (not apron) used in Zamora (Spain) that is crossed across the chest and tied at the back of the waist.
Despectively also: spanish language using gallicisms (words of french origin)

Hi there from Mexico We have been using it since I can remember to refer to Americans instead of saying gringo so they would not know we are saying something related to them it is gabacha and gabacho but in other Spanish speaking countries it has other meanings
