Soup and sandwich are always good. And personally, I think men appreciate something a little more hearty than just soup and a salad! :) So how about serving a "gourmet" grilled cheese sandwich along side? Instead of your run of the mill grocery store breads, I would buy top-of-the-line fresh-baked bread. With that fancy asparagus soup, why not try a deep, dark pumpernickel with swiss? A crusty sour dough with a smooth colby jack? Or a caraway rye with sharp smoked cheddar (my personal favorite!)? The key is, buttering the topside of each crust before you grill. And don't flip until one side is golden brown. You could also grill these panini-style to make them a little fancier. Cut the sandwich in half diagonally and serve on either side of your bowl of soup. These sandwiches are flavorful enough on their own, but not too overpowering that they take away from the taste of the soup!! ENJOY!!

I love asparagus soup, too. A salad and crusty country bread would make an excellent accompaniment.
