Yes you can - I live in the U.S. and just returned from a trip to Canada and was on 4 different flights. Had my digital in my carry-on. Some say that you should have the agent had check the camera because the xray may ruin the chip - but i can tell that's not true.
As the person above mentioned, check the TSA website - www.tsa.gov and also check the website of your airline.
