Smaller animals have a more rapid heart beat, and young dogs are always a bit playful. However, there is a lot you can do to calm an animal by speaking in soft soothing calm voice, being physically relaxed, not tense and softly gently stroking in the animal.

give more time before you let the dog around people. have a friend over, let the dog know they are there but not loose. try a crate in an area so the dog can be part of the picture, but not the whole picture. will take some time. after the guest has been there for a while try letting the dog out (on a leash) to meet the friend then put back in the crate. keep the time short and add a few minutes each time. have the pet go out for a quick pee first should help minimize the mess. have a favorite chewy in the crate to give the dog some excitement release.

First, there is no such breed as a malti-tzu. Your dog is a Maltese Shih-tzu mixed breed.
Traits of both of these breeds include hyperness, territorialness, and barking. If this is an issue that bother you, you should not have gotten either of these breeds of dogs, much less a mix of one.
Contact the rescue group that you got her from, there are few ethical and responsible breeders of mutts, and see if they can help you out.
Otherwise, take her to obedience class and see if that helps her socialize a little better and if it helps her listen to you more. Good luck to you and your little one. : )
Edit: I'm not quite sure why you contacted me via PM. Your dog is a probably a great pet, but you bought from a disreputable breeder. Sorry, but true. It doesn't make her any less of a wonderful pet, but next time, please read up on what makes a reputable breeder. And most of them don't sell 'designer dogs'.

well have her outside when you friends come over and play with her alot, if she is a puppy of course she is going to be excited when something new happens, but i can relate to the barking thing because i have a chihuahua who is also 7 pounds and she barks at people and other animals period, all the time. Your dog will probably calm down the older it gets, so i wouldn't worry about the excitements alot, it will eventually go away, if your dog is anything like mine.

Dogs need to be socialized, much as people do, they need to learn how to behave. A lot of dog barking and excitable energy could mean that the dog needs to be exercised, they have a lot of energy stored up that needs to be burned off! I have a maltese, and we go for regular walks, this has cut down on the excitable behaviours drastically.

looks like the weirdos have come back out tonight (see above answers).
really your dog just needs to be trained. why don't you take her to obedience class. or read up on the behavior. whatever you do, don't punish her for this. always give rewards for good behavior.
